Is 46th Ward politics scared of intelligent women?

Even more so women with extraordinary intelligence?

I’d posit, yes a great deal of it is on both counts.

Certainly, as we have learned firsthand with Cappleman and Trump, hate binds stronger and more thoroughly than equality and the love of humankind, still it always amazes me that intelligence can be almost a liability for a woman in politics. And of course, Cappleman has gone out of his way to exclude women from leadership roles in the 46th Ward.

All politicians do the obligatory soft sell stuff, pictures with babies or in classrooms with children, but if a woman does get in politics, much of the electorate is more comfortable with the woman as helpmate rather than leader image.

Sorry not me. There are many aspects of being an alderman that truly do need empathetic and nurturing leadership, but still half the job is downtown in City Council. I was in real estate, venture capital and large scale information technology for over 40 years. I know how those guys roll.

We are talking about a multi-billion dollar budget and multi-billion dollars of properties and businesses, these guys don’t play. Don’t send teachers and preachers to spar with these guys, unless they are Neil deGrasse Tyson or Martin Luther King is all I have to say. History is full of evidence that what I am saying is true.

With no negative on any other candidate, I think the 46th Ward is fortunate to have a candidate of Marianne Lalonde’s calibre. If you don’t see she is leagues above the other candidates, you haven’t talked to her enough.

Most of the time I’m not big on titles or degrees, but she earned the right to be called Doctor Lalonde, she has a PhD, and from Northwestern no less. Still most just call her Marianne.

I know this from first hand observation, while other viable and semi-viable candidates were learning their stump speeches, in some cases discovering that people care about corruption and housing more today than education solving all problems after they are dead, Marianne was out the gate and moment one completely fluent and far beyond. When she speaks to you, she’s done her homework, it’s not just some fuzzy better world, it’s specifics, laws and negotiations, and how they relate to you, from someone who has actually written enacted laws unlike the rest of the pack, unless you want to count pigeon ordinances…

Of the 3 meet and greet the candidate talks I have been to, only one candidate didn’t have their handler interrupt the candidate and explain something to the crowd for them – Marianne Lalonde.

If you were playing with your own money and life (and you are) you would hire the best and most qualified. Marianne is that person. If you don’t know that yet, find out fast.

Thanks!

The Block Club President that challenged Cappleman

This is leadership in action, not words

In a legislative world where most closely hug the status quo and powers that be, Marianne Lalonde said “We deserve better“.

I am not easily impressed, but Marianne impresses me. In a world of future promises, Marianne hit the trail, with actions way before she announced her candidacy. As I noted in READ THIS: Before you vote for 46th Ward Alderman: “Marianne is a doer not a talker, whether it’s being President of the LANA block club, helping put rent control on ballot, spearheading the LSD Wilson Avenue exit removal resistance, as a member of the Clarendon Park Advisory Council, part of the committee to save Uplift, serving at Sarah’s Circle, supporting tiny houses or other things.”

I think the 46th Ward has a lot to look forward to with Marianne as 46th Ward Alderman, consider what she has already shown us.

Sorry to change the subject but in parting can we change the official titles to include alderwoman or alderperson now? Geesh… this old school stuff is tiring…

Thanks!

Wow, was I wrong about Marianne Lalonde

VIDEO WTTW About the Candidate and Q&A

How I met Marianne Lalonde

I think it was in May of 2017, that friend, neighbor and community member David Baumgartner and I went to a Lakeside Area Neighbors Association block club meeting. For years, oddly our area bordered by Sheridan, Wilson, Clarendon and Eastwood was one of the few, if not the only area that wasn’t part of a block club in the 46th Ward. LANA had recently enlarged its borders to include us.

Historically, I have been opposed to many parts of the 46th Ward block club structure, but I was happy for this act of inclusion. I was even trying to go full on community relationships and put aside my block club disdain and activism. I’m glad I did for a moment as it turns out today.

At the June meeting, I voted for Marianne for the first time, to be the block club President. There seemed to be a genuine block club desire to grow and diversify the block club. Still, I wrongly judged Marianne even though I didn’t know it yet and assumed she was just an installed Cappleman block club pawn.

And that was it for a time. I pretty much settled into observation mode and was happy our building residents were plugged into what should be a fully inclusive neighborhood structure.

It became clear in time to me, LANA was the best and most independent block club. A lot of moves under Marianne’s guidance were made to improve things. To be sure a number of others deserve credit as well, Marianne is a leader not a ruler.

WOW though, did my brain explode in a million pieces on the day she announced she was challenging Cappleman.

Golly gosh gee whiz if I didn’t do it again, I judged her short a 2nd time! I’m like OK she’s independent, smart, a leader… but she must be one of those typical Democrats…

One thing about Marianne is she may very well have a long term game plan, but in that game plan, she is all in for the 46th Ward. She spends every moment that is uninvolved with survival, doing something for the community. Whether it’s the block club, Lake Shore Drive – Wilson Avenue exit removal, Clarendon Park Advisory Council, Uplift or Sarah’s Circle or even small things, she is the only candidate that shares CCO Facebook posts for instance.

Unlike the other candidates I have seen, she comes around when she wants nothing, she is a true friend to the community. She’s a doer not a talker.

OK, I’m tired of being wrong about Marianne – this I am not wrong about, I’ve taken the time full of first hand observance, facts not assumptions – she is a true progressive and the only true independent not beholden to outside groups progressive that is actively building a wide coalition across all strata necessary to beat Cappleman. Marianne is clearly a growth person and truly listening to us.

We can do no better than electing Marianne, it’s as simple as that.

Thanks!
