Cappleman & elite mostly upper-class white property owners can buy booze where they choose to, but not you!
Estimated to be less than 200 members of 4 block clubs, composed of almost all upper-class white property owners, recently voted themselves to be the entire 46th Ward community of 50,000+ people and deny average people in Uptown the right to buy alcohol at the proposed Circle K and Subway franchise at the former JJ Peppers located at Sheridan Rd/Lawrence Ave.
Cappleman has indicated he will stand with the “community” decision and oppose the license. With aldermanic privilege, the greatest source of corruption in Chicago, the deal is likely done.
I don’t drink but this is not about alcohol.
One of the worst parts of this is that less than 1/2 of 1% of the 46th Ward’s residents are taking it upon themselves to legislate morality as they see fit and declare their super minority opinion to be the whole community.
What’s next, voter suppression, some more gerrymandering?
Cappleman’s “community” is the same as Trump’s inauguration crowd size
It’s a lie from a dishonest Alderman that lies every minute like Trump does.
Question: Since when do Democrats legislate morality?
Answer: Conservatives and Republicans do, and usually with a large dose of hypocrisy just like this.
How shameful, mostly drinkers and in some cases actual alcoholics being total hypocrites, thinking their income and special position lets them decide that people of color and people with less money than them need to be restricted from buying alcohol with the same freedom they have.
Shame on you Ald. Cappleman and block club members!
